Testimony of organization The Global Resource Foundation from the United States
Our relationship with https:// hogarlucerosdelamanecer.org
goes back to 2007 when GlobalShare launched its first annual fundraising.
Chery Lehman, a GlobalShare director is a colleague of the founder of Hogar Luceros del Amanecer Foundation and that was how we established the relationship. From their start in 2004 in the remote village of Camoapa inaccessible to school-age children to attend public school, Hogar set up a make-shift school for basic education for 23 children, initially involving 100 families in livelihood crafts while educating their responsibilities to the education, health and nutrition care of their children.
Thanks to the able leadership of Fabian Rodriguez, to date there are 188 students, 1 classroom (another in progress), and now a fully accredited elementary school. The Nutrition Program delivered food to 617,217 people and serviced 123,552 in Hogar’s 2 feeding centers.
The livelihood project now offers vocational trade (e.g., mechanics, computer, cooking, sewing, baking, hairdressing, etc.) with 192 successfully gained employment. Over the years, there are now 13 programs that include an Intervention program for Teen Pregnancy and Domestic Abuse. Moreover, the Ministry of Education sent 68 students to learn the social program approach of Hogar replicated in 4 neighboring areas of Camoapa.
Most recently, computers were delivered to the school to bring the students to the age of technology.
The unique feature of Hogar is its Farm.
One of the founders lent her 20.4-acre farmland rent-free as laboratory to train the community in wholly organic farming and habits of healthy nutrition. The farm is a 15-minute walk (1,200 m) from the children’s school.
The Farm presently has an inventory of 30,000 trees, 2,500 fruit trees and 3,500 trees for vegetation and arborization (biological process to form new dendritic trees and branches), and 15,000 various plants.
The Farm has walkways accessing the activity plots. The farm is divided into areas of at least 0.70 sqm for each of these:
Nursery, Vegetable Garden, Animal Husbandry (sheep and ox), Piggery and Chicken Management, Vermiculture composting, Fruit trees, and Forestry.
• Thousands of plants were donated to different reforestation projects.
• Harvested fruits and vegetables are for consumption of Hogar’s 2 Feeding Centers and shared with other organizations/institutions running feeding centers for children and adults.
• Thousands of plants and other produce are sold to sustain the farm and projects of Hogar. Revenue averages $3,000/year, sometimes more, other times less.
Additionally, the Farm has,
• become a popular place to visit in a relaxed atmosphere by residents of the community.
• drawn hundreds of university students to attend workshops and obtain practical experience for their chosen profession.
• drew 400 volunteers from overseas, mostly from Spain, assisting as instructors/teachers for all the programs on an annual rotation.
An organization as progressive and dedicated to preventing the cycle of poverty, violence, and teen pregnancy in the Camoapa than Hogar Luceros del Amanecer Foundation.
The Global ShareResource Foundation (www.globalshare.org), a 501(c)3 NY-based organization was formed in 2001 has been fortunate to have forged a healthy partnership with Hogar Luceros, and its exemplary executive director, Fabian.
